Alison Shuttle - owner of Access Careers
With over 25 years' experience of career coaching in the private, public and voluntary sectors and having assisted over 2000 people, I possess a wealth of experience in the careers and 'welfare to work' industry. I have advised highly skilled professionals and also specialised in working with priority groups.
With Duality Training I trained Personal Advisors to support their work-seeking clients in creating a 'Stand Out CV' for Sheffield City Council.
I have also run a series of successful employability and presentation skills workshops for Third Sector organisations and charities, including 'The Princes Trust' and 'Room for Work'.
For Babcock International and the Education Development Trust I provided presentations on topics such as 'Finding work through Social Media', 'Writing a winning CV', 'How to succeed at Competency Based Interviews' etc for their outplacement programmes (clients included 'Siemens', 'Dean Wood', 'Gatwick Airport'.)
Having a background in Basic Skills and English teaching has given me an awareness of such needs in the workplace, and has led me to run popular courses in report-writing, minute-taking and Business Communication. With 'Duality Training' I have written workbooks and contributed to e-learning packages on work-seeking topics for the UK and Saudi Arabian markets.
I have particular expertise in the cultural aspects of jobsearch in the UK, having worked with international students and migrants from a wide range of countries, in addition to having travelled extensively, particularly in the Middle East.
I have been regional CV writing consultant for one of the UK's leading national CV writing companies where I advised senior professionals and executives both in the UK and abroad. Recently I worked for a global recruitment firm advising their senior executive level clients by Skype on CV coaching and development.
Possessing qualifications in guidance, I am an active member of the Institute of Careers Guidance, The Institute for Learning, and the Association for Coaching. I am also a qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Education honours degree, certified trainer, and qualified A1 assessor. In September 2013, I achieved my 'Competent Communicator' award from Toastmasters International, and continue to have a passion for public speaking.
